Peculiarities of Students’ Interests, Depending on the Manifestation of Femininity–Masculinity Signs
Abstract
Research in the field of gender psychology became particularly relevant due to a steady trend towards convergence of male and female behavioral standards, images of masculinity and femininity. Scientific interest is caused by the problem of personal growth of students depending on the characteristics of femininity-masculinity, in particular, the formation of their personal orientation, and, above all, interests. It was empirically proved that the psychological and biological
sex of the studied sampling coincides. However, males manifested both masculine and androgynous features. Investigated female subjects showed signs of androgyny even more than male ones; the manifestation of their signs of femininity is presented a little less. That is, according to the obtained data, nowadays androgyny is a more distinctive feature concerning the characteristics of a woman than a man. Comparison of data on students’ interests and the
manifestation of femininity-masculinity signs revealed the presence of an expressive level of connection between the manifestation of masculinity signs and interests in sports and military affairs, and femininity with interests in literature, business and household. Analysis of data on persons with manifestations of signs of androgyny showed that they have (at a low level of connection) interests in chemistry-biology, and specifically in psychology. It is
precisely these interests that, according to the data, combine male and female androgynies persons, which, in the context of professional education (training of a psychologist), are common to them. Among other interests and signs of femininity – masculinity statistically significant connection wasn’t found.
The obtained research results have not only scientific but also practical value: despite the unity of professional education purpose for all students, the presence of features of their interests, depending not only on their biological sex but also on the psychological sex, the appropriate features of their gender role behavior should be taken into account.
