Negative Psychological Consequences of Political and Legal Situation in the East of Ukraine: the Problematic Field of Research

Abstract

The article outlines a problem field for the study of negative psychological consequences in the political and legal sphere caused with armed confrontation in eastern Ukraine. The necessity of studying and developing the following issues is substantiated: negative image of power are not rationalized; unrealistic, paternalistic expectations from the authorities; social dependence; «carte-blanche» to the authorities on unreasonably tough actions; transfer of responsibility for the actual political and legal situation only to politicians; information warfare and consciousness manipulation; problems of reintegration, re-adaptation of warrior who was on anti-terroristic operation; terrorism; readiness for unlawful actions in order to realize their own interests, etc. The author presents idea that at the level of an individual citizen the following negative psychological aspects can be revealed when solving political and legal collisions: polarization of representations of persons and social groups; negative stereotyping in relation to certain social groups; dehumanization of an opponent; depersonalization; loss of hope for the future; radicalization of scenarios of behavior in problematic political and legal situations; thirst for revenge (participants of the antiterrorist operation (ATO), settlers, people in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions); narcosis, alcoholism in the ATO zone; exacerbation of nationalistic ideas; legal nihilism, criminalization of domestic conflicts, etc. It is shown of significant polarization of the evaluation of citizens’ regarding ATO. The main topics that have the greatest conflictpotential are outlined. It is established that in the representations of young people protest forms of civic activity are an effective tool of pressure on power. The list of possible directions of scientific researches and applied developments in the field of political and legal sphere which are related to the military conflict in eastern Ukraine is proposed.
